To commemorate the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas which marks the 150th Birth Anniversary of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who was born on 15th November 1875 , the students of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir Salt Lake, Kolkata, W.B presented some programmes and activities.

The Morning Assembly began by recalling the great contribution of Birsa Munda and his battle cry to unite the different tribal communities against the various atrocities of the dikus through a monologue. This was to pay tribute to this great son of the soil. Students also enacted a small play which paid homage to this Great Leader. Poems in Hindi were recited by the students recalling the bravery of Birsa. Later throughout the day students were shown different videos on Birsa Munda which served as an important opportunity to remember the struggles and contributions of tribal communities.

The primary wing of BGKV school celebrated Children’s Day on 14th November 2024 with immense zeal and fervour. Declared a bagless day, students attended school dressed in vibrant attire, adding to the festive atmosphere. The school was transformed into a colorful haven, with intricate decorations that reflected the excitement of the day. The teachers curated an engaging programme for the students, featuring captivating dance performances, melodious songs, and entertaining skits.

As a special treat, the students indulged in corn puffs, biscuits, and chocolates. The students were engaged in variety of activities and exciting games and a thrilling movie was screened on the smart board which further elevated their excitement. Throughout the day, the students’ faces beamed with delight, creating unforgettable memories. It was truly a day to cherish, celebrating the innocence and wonder of childhood.

Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir celebrated this year’s teachers’ day on 5th September 2024 in a very special way. An official photo session for all teaching and non-teaching staff was held in the morning, followed by a brief cultural programme.  The event began with the inspiring words of the honorable Director Dr G. V. Subramanian. He talked about the importance of focus and concentration in life, which every teacher should try to inculcate in the students. Next, respected Deputy Directed Smt. Sujata Ghosh addressed the gathering. She inspired all the teachers to work for the betterment of the future generation. Everyone in the Bhavan’s family was touched as she gifted handmade cards to the primary, secondary and management wings. She also gifted special handmade cards to Director, Principal, Headmistress and Assistant Headmistress. Principal Mr. Arun Kumar Dasgupta then encouraged and inspired all the faculty members with his words. This was followed by the felicitation of Abhijit Raha, Srila Satpathy and Susmita Sen, faculty, Seconary Wing, BGKV on completion of glorious thirty years of service in this prestigious institution. This was followed by the felicitation of Ketaki Hajra, Adity Mukherjee and Sujit Chatterjee, faculty, Secondary Wing, BGKV for completing 20 wonderful years of service in this school. Sujaya Bhattacharya and Anindita Choudhuri, faculty, Primary Wing, BGKV were also felicitated on completion of 20 years of service. The day ended with a beautiful musical presentation by Aindrila Guha and her team.

The tiny tots of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan celebrated the birth of Lord Krishna with immense fervor and zeal. They danced to a special Janmashtami song, ‘Gokuldham Biraj kabasi Kanha Nand Kishore’. Their dance filled the air with joy and devotion.

The students of the Foundational Stage of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan proudly celebrated India ‘s 78th Independence Day with a spectacular show. Through energetic dance performances, inspiring action songs, speeches on the National symbols and an engaging skit, our young patriots showcased their talent and creativity while honoring the spirit of freedom and independence. Prep-1 children exhibited their artistic skills by hand painting the tricolor on their own vests, a beautiful display of our national pride. Meanwhile, Prep -2 children had a blast in making badges with the national flag – a fun and interactive way to learn about our country’s flag. The class – 1 students explored their artistic skills by doing thumb painting, using the tricolor. The students of class -2 colored a worksheet showing two children proudly holding the National flag.

On 15th August 2024, Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir commemorated the 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm. The day began with Prabhat Pheri led by the school pipe band, followed by students who hummed patriotic songs as they walked around their school’s locality early in the morning, reawakening the spirit of patriotism among the residents. Students carrying the school banner walked in front. As we witness the world going through a chaotic turbulent period, the students of BGKV conveyed the message of love, peace, equality, and harmony as they marched forward with banners that reinforced the idea of equal rights and the importance of safety, equality, and empathy. The Prabhat Pheri was joined by the respected Principal Mr. Arun Kumar Dasgupta, and Vice Principal Mrs. Monami Chattopadhyay. Not only the students, teachers, and staff of the school but also the parents and guardians walked along with equal zeal. The Prabhat Pheri was followed by the hoisting of the National Flag on the school campus. Honorable Chairman of Bhavan’s Kolkata Kendra, Dr. Bikram Sarkar graced the flag-hoisting ceremony with his presence. The final event of the day was a brief cultural programme where along with the students of primary and secondary sections, the students at the management college also participated with enthusiasm.

A prestigious programme was held at EZCC KOLKATA, was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, BIDHAN NAGAR SANSKRITI ANGAN in collaboration with BHARATIYA VIDYA BHAVAN to celebrate the 83rd death anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore on 7th August 2024. A total of 300 students from different schools, colleges and universities participated in this programme along with some eminent Rabindra-sangeet artists. Thirty students BGKV also presented two songs of Tagore and their performance was highly appreciated by all. The principal of BGKV, Sri Arun Kumar Dasgupta, also was present for the event, as a special guest

On 31st July 2024, the Hindi department of BGKV organized a programme to celebrate the birth anniversary of Munshi Prem Chand. The students performed Ganesh Vandana at the beginning of the programme. Then a Bhavnritya was staged. The main attraction of the day was the play, Burhi Kaki. The students showcased their talent by playing different roles wonderfully. After that, a quiz competition was held on Prem Chand and his literary work. The event ended with Saraswati Vandana.

The Rath Yatra is a sacred occasion, symbolizing faith, unity, and reverence for the divine. This auspicious festival was celebrated in the Primary section of BGKV on 8th July 2024 by the students and teachers, with great sanctity and devotion. It was declared a ‘Bagless Day’ for the students of the primary section. Students got the opportunity to pull the ‘Rath’ or the decorated chariot of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra. The entire campus echoed with the chants of ‘Jai Jagannath’, accompanied by the blowing of conch shells and the playing of brass gong bells.

12th July is celebrated as World Paper Bag Day in order to promote the significance of replacing plastic with paper bags. On this day, students of the secondary section of BGKV made several paper bags and decorated them beautifully. In this way they were taught the importance of using eco-friendly alternatives in their daily lives.

With the arrival of the monsoon season in India, the month of July heralds the celebration of Van Mahotsav – a festival dedicated to tree planting and increasing the green cover on our planet. Embracing the spirit of monsoon, the students of BGKV participated in an interactive session with renowned environmentalist, Mr. Rameshchandran, to delve into the crucial role of plants in sustaining life on Earth. Under Mr. Rameshchandran’s guidance, they planted mango and neem seeds, committing to care for the saplings over the next year. These nurtured plants will be part of next year’s Van Mahotsav celebrations, where they will be planted across various parts of the city to further the cause of reforestation and urban greening.

The students and teachers of BGKV, Primary Section, came together to celebrate a cultural event honoring the lives and works of two legendary Bengali icons: Kobi Guru Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. The event was held in the school auditorium on July 18, 2024.

Life just gets better with a slice of mango. The little ones of the pre-primary section of BGKV celebrated ‘National Mango Day’ on 22nd July 2024, to honor this delicious and versatile tropical fruit. The tiny tots of Prep _1 put their little hands together to make their own mango headgear. They happily tapped their feet to a peppy rhyme on ‘Mango’. The children of Prep-2 drew and colored the king of the fruits and also gave short speeches to make the celebration more vibrant. Last but not the least, the prep-3 children learnt about the different uses of mango and made a lovely bookmark with the cut out of this juicy fruit.

The students of BGKV Primary Section enthusiastically celebrated International Tiger Day on July 29, 2024, to raise awareness about the conservation of tigers and the urgent threats they face. The event was a resounding success, inspiring young minds to take action in protecting these majestic creatures and their habitat.

On the occasion of Doctors’ Day, which was on 1st July, Manipal Hospital arranged an interactive session on 5th July 2024 at Manipal Hospital. Some students of BGKV attended this highly informative and career-guiding session. The idea behind this was to provide a platform where the future “would be” doctors can interact one-on-one with highly experienced practitioners of Medicine.

On 26th June 2024, the students of BGKV participated in an awareness rally against drug abuse, to observe the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. This rally was organized by the Bidhan Nagar Police, Government of West Bengal.

On 21st June 2024, the NCC cadets of BGKV participated in the celebration of the International Yoga Day organized by the Directors of West Bengal and Sikkim. The event took place at The Victoria Memorial Ground. While the NCC cadets observed this day at The Victoria Memorial Ground, the rest of the secondary section of the school took part in the International Yoga Day in the school auditorium. Although for the secondary student’s yoga is a part of their regular physical training on this special day they did Yoga to enhance their mind and body and they were also enlightened about its effects and benefits.

On 10th May 2024, the students of BGKV sought to showcase their creativity by paying tribute to Rabindranath Tagore through a cultural programme, on the occasion of his 163rd birth anniversary. The programme commenced with a wonderful rendition of a Tagore poem, followed by an instrumental segment and a recitation. The final segment of the programme was paying homage to Tagore’s creations to summon the colours of spring. Students staged multiple dance performances and sang Tagore’s songs based on the theme of spring.

On 10th June 2024, a team of BGKV students Participated in the celebration of World Environment Day and Golden Jubilee Anniversary of West Bengal Pollution Control Board. The event took place at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.

The students and teachers of the Primary section of BGKV celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga on 21st June, 2024 with great enthusiasm and fervor. The students showcased various yoga postures and asanas with grace and poise. This was followed by pranayam or breathing exercises and meditation. The importance of practicing yoga in their daily lives was imbibed in the young minds through this celebration

On 22nd April 2024, the primary students of BGKV celebrated the Earth Day with great enthusiasm and fervor. The event was organized to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our planet and to encourage everyone to take action in order to protect the environment.

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, ISPAT, Salt Lake, in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Salt Lake, organised “Ekushe Utsav – 2024″, at EZCC on 21st February 2024. The event was graced by the presence of Shri Arun Kumar Dasgupta, Principal, Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir, as the Chief Guest and Shri Sabyasachi Dutta, Chairperson of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, as the Guest of Honour. The Rangmanch at EZCC became a vibrant gathering of talented reciters, poets, musicians and dancers who paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their mother tongue on this day.

Vasant Panchami ,the festival dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, learning, music and art was celebrated on 13th February 2024, with much enthusiasm and fervour by the students of the Primary Section of BGKV, Kolkata. The auspicious day began with the Saraswati Vandana. The students wore yellow(Basanti) coloured traditional attires to mark the advent of the spring season. Students also did various craft activities like drawing and colouring the swan, the vahan(vehicle) of Maa Saraswati.

Yellow Day was celebrated by the students of Prep I and Prep II on 13th February ,2024.The motive of celebrating the Yellow Day is to make the children aware of the fact, that this bright colour carries the promise of a positive future, happiness, freshness, intellect and joy. The little ones decked up in yellow dresses did ‘tearing and pasting’ activities with paper and ‘thumb painting’ on yellow coloured objects .The yellow vibe was also present in the food items that they brought in their tiffin boxes.

Kulapati, Dr. K.M. Munshi Memorial Day and National Deworming Day were observed on 8.02.24 . Students were enlightened on the life and works of Dr K. M. Munshi. Since Dr. K.M Munshi was a great visionary and was greatly concerned about the holistic development of the children, therefore this day was chosen for observing National Deworming Day. The objective of this day was to make the parents, teachers and students aware of this vital health issue. Eminent Pediatrician Dr. Samik Hazra, conducted a workshop on how children are vulnerable in getting infected with worms.

The 75th Republic Day was celebrated by the students of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir with great enthusiasm. All the students, teachers, staff and parents gathered for the flag-hoisting, which was followed by singing of the National Anthem. A prize distribution ceremony was held, and the prizes of various inter-house competitions were awarded to the students. The day ended with a brief cultural programme by the students of BGKV, primary and secondary wings, along with the students of BIMS, in which they staged a mosaic of patriotic songs and dances.

On 12th December 2023, BGKV celebrated Bharatiya Bhasa Utsav, an initiative by CBSE. The Janma Jayanti of Mahakavi Subramania Bharti, which is on 11th December, is celebrated as Bharatiya Bhasa Utsav- a festival for enjoying the beauty of language and its diversity and experiencing the oneness in that diversity. The students of classes IX and XI participated in this activity, guided by the departments of Sanskrit, Hindi, and Bengali.

Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir, Primary Section, celebrated its Annual Day on 29th November 2024 at the Science City Auditorium. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Bikram Sarkar (IAS, retd.), Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kolkata Kendra, and Shri Raj Kumar Chhajer, Vice Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kolkata Kendra. The theme of the Annual Day was ‘ऐक्य मेव जयते’ ie, ‘Long Live Unity’.

The program commenced with the recitation of the sloka ‘Ka Tabo Kanta’ by Adi Shankaracharya, followed by a soulful bhajan invoking divine blessings. Then the Lighting of the Lamp was followed by the reading of the Annual Report by the Headmistress, Smt. Suparna Chatterjee, highlighting the achievements and milestones of the session 2024-2025.

The academic awards were then given away to the achievers, recognising their hard work and dedication. The cultural program was a vibrant showcase of diversity, featuring dances from G20 countries like Russia, Mexico, and Brazil, thus showcasing global unity. The tiny tots of classes I and II presented a delightful depiction of the flavours of the different seasons.

A Bengali drama based on Sukumar Ray’s ‘Abol Tabol’ enthralled the audience with its wit and humour. The grand finale was a spectacular presentation of Unity in Diversity, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of our nation.

The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the Assistant Headmistress, Smt Chaitali Bhowmik, followed by the National Anthem.

The Prefect Investiture Ceremony was conducted on 14th November 2024, at the school ground. The outgoing prefectorial batch passed their duties to the new prefects and captains. The ceremony started with a Ganesh Vandana. The Director Dr. G. V. Subramanian, addressed the new prefectorial batch and congratulated them. This was followed by announcing the names of the Head Girl, Head Boy, Cultural Coordinators, Sports Captains, House Captains, and senior and junior prefects of individual houses. The new prefects and captains received their badges. This was followed by the oath-taking ceremony conducted by the Principal, Shri Arun Kr. Dasgupta.

As the duties and responsibilities were handed over the outgoing batch was filled with nostalgia. The former head boy, head girl, coordinators and captains shared their experiences of serving their school during their tenure. The current council of leaders was greeted their senior counterparts. The day ended with the national anthem.

The CBSE Heritage India Quiz was held on 18th November 2024, in Hariyana Vidyamandir. Many renowned schools across West Bengal participated in this contest. BGKV was one of the six schools to reach the finals after scoring the highest in the preliminary round. In the final round BGKV stood second after DAV model School Durgapur.

West Bengal State Aids Prevention and Control Society, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal organized the prestigious Red Ribbon State Level Quiz Competition on 22nd November 2024. It was held at Swasthya Bhawan. Team BGKV secured the second position in the quiz. The participants received certificates and cash prize of Rs. 4000 each.

On 22nd November 2024 NB Institute for Rural Technology, Kolkata organized a Solar Ambassador Programme. 12 students of Class XI, from both humanities and science stream attended the event. There were discussion and demonstration sessions on the proper utilization of the renewable sources of energy. They were introduced to different machines running on solar energy like water purifier, solar pumping system, solar sanitary napkin vending machines and many more. They also operated those by themselves and had hands-on experience. It was indeed a very enriching and interesting session for them which also enlightened them about the importance of renewable energy. The students got a chance to interact openly with experts.

On 23rd November 2024, the students of Class 12, Commerce sections, visited the Keventer Agro Dairy Factory at Barasat. They all witnessed each and every step involved in the production process which was going on in full swing. Not only production but they also got an insight into the process of packing, packaging, labelling and many other things associated with the dairy industry. It was truly an enlightening experience for the students.

CBSE Heritage India Quiz is an annual inter school quiz. This year’s quiz focuses on the theme of “The conservation and restoration of cultural heritage”. The quiz aims not only to educate students about India’s diverse cultural heritage but also to raise awareness about the need for conservation and restoration efforts. Considering this year’s position holders, Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir, Salt Lake, Kolkata had secured the third place. A proud moment indeed.

Arko Pal, a Class 10 student of BGKV has won first prize in THE ADVANTAGE CHAMPS 3.0 a national level online quiz competition organized by the India Today group.

Venkatesh, a student of BGKV, secured the 5th position in the ‘BNKU 1st International FIDE Chess Festival’ which was held at Vijaywada, in Andhra Pradesh from 22nd to 26th October 24. 508 chess players participated from all the states of India including NE Regions. He added 65 ELO points in his classical rating with 6 points out of 9 rounds.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Vidyashram, Jaipur organised Bhavan’s 13th North and North Eastern Region Schools Athletic and Cultural Meet 2024 from 16th October 2024 to 18th October 2024. Several sports and cultural events were organised. Cultural events that took place were- News Panel discussion, Classical Dance Duet, semi classical Solo Singing, On the Spot Graffiti Painting, and On the Spot Photography.  The students of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir participated wholeheartedly in all the events and bagged several awards. Anushka Mitra secured second position in the News Panel Discussion and Devangshi Dutta Gupta came second in the On Spot Photography competition. Atmadeep Chakraborty was awarded first prize in Semi Classical Solo Singing. Overall, it was a wonderful learning experience for all the participants

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Vidyashram, Jaipur, organised Bhavan’s 13th North and North Eastern Region Schools Athletic and Cultural Meet 2024 from 16th October 2024 to 18th October, 2024. Numerous students from BGKV, Kolkata had participated in their events. Among the boys, Aarush Tiwary of class IX-D had bagged gold medal in high jump and team BGKV had won bronze medal for relay (100m).

On the other hand, among the girls, Pragati Banik of Class XII-A1 had on gold medals for 100m and 400m race. Whereas Ahana Maity of class IX-E and Srijita Chakrabarty of class XI-S4 had won silver medals for high jump and shot put respectively. In total, 1 memento, 6 medals and 14 certificates had been bagged by BGKV.

Ishaan Chowdhury, a class VI student of BGKV scored a Gold Medal in International Abacus Olympiad (GEMA), which was held on 18th May 2024.

Ishaan Chowdhury a class VI student of BGKV stood 3rd in Bold Bishop category, in Inter Academy Chess Tournament, which held on 20th October 2024, in Chakraberia.

The Primary wing of BGKV was abuzz with excitement as students enthusiastically celebrated the advent of Durga Puja, one of India’s most revered festivals. The atmosphere was electric, with vibrant autumnal decorations transforming the primary section into a festive haven.

To immerse themselves in the spirit of the festival, students were encouraged to dress in traditional Indian ethnic attire, adding to the colorful ambience. A “bagless day” declaration allowed students to focus on the celebrations, unencumbered by academic routines.

The pre-primary students immersed themselves in the festive essence of ‘Agomoni’, presenting a captivating spectacle. Through dance, drama and music, they narrated the mythological story of Maa Durga’s origin, her triumphant battle against Mahishasura, and her joyful return to Earth with her children.

The imaginative minds of Prep -2 students blossomed through vibrant colouring of ‘Chand Malas ‘. Meanwhile, Prep-3 children brought Autumn to life by crafting fluffy clouds, soft cotton ‘kash phul’ and delicate ‘Shiuli phul’, made out of paper cups.

The Durga Puja celebration at BGKV Primary Wing was a testament to the school’s commitment to preserving our cultural heritage and fostering community spirit.

CBSE National Table Tennis Competition 2024 was held in Rainbow International School, Nagrota Bagowan, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh from 1st October 2024 to 4th October 2024. The Under 17 Girls’ team of BGKV has secured the runner-up position. Arushi Nandi became the Under 17 champion in mixed doubles with the partner of DPS, Sonipat. BGKV congratulates the players for giving their best and achieving success.

Sanskrit Elocution Competition was organized by Ramkrishna Mission, Golpark on 26.09.2024(Thursday). Three students participated in this competition from BGKV. Out of the three students, Sourya Dasgupta has bagged 5th prize which was announced on 30.09.2024.

The pre-primary students of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan celebrated the Kite Festival with great enthusiasm. As the vibrant kites soared high in the sky, the little ones cheered with delight, their eyes shining with wonder. The teachers also joined in, helping the tiny hands hold the kite strings firmly. Prep-1 students colored small kites with bright hues.

The young ones of Prep-2 decorated their hand -made kites. Prep-3 students wrote heartfelt wishes on their kites. As the kites took to the sky, their wishes soared above too.

On 21st September 2024 the Psychology students of class 12 of both Humanities and Science visited Antara Hospital (Psychiatric Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre), Baruipur for in-depth case study and project as a part of CBSE curriculum. The student had an interactive session with the hospital inmates. They also had a small tour of the hospital and visited the occupational therapy unit.

Anushka Bose, a class 8 student of BGKV secured the 3rd position (Under 14 Women’s Category) in the CBSE Far East Zone Shooting Championship, held at Army Public School Kalimpong. She has qualified for CBSE National.

In the CBSE Cluster II Table Tennis Under 17 Girls event, team BGKV became the champion, winning by 3/0 in straight sets. The team BGKV includes Arushi Nandi, Bristita Majumdar and Indira Sen.

On 27th September 2024, The Times of India organized an interschool quiz competition, ‘Times Quizzard’ in Birla High School auditorium. The BGKV team secured the second position and has received prize money of Rs. 30,000 apart from the trophy, medals and certificates. About 65 schools participated in Quizzard 2024. The participants of BGKV were Anandaroop Ghosh(Class XI), Arkodeb Datta(Class XI) 3. Rudradeb Datta(Class X). BGKV congratulates the team for giving their best and achieving such impressive results.

On 28th September 2024 the BGKV team won bronze medal in Bharat Ko Jano interschool quiz competition organized by Bharat Vikas Parishad, Salt Lake.

BGKV students of class XII, who have Nutrition as one of their subjects, visited Mother’s Recipe factory on 28th September 2024. The visit was organized to provide students with practical insights into food production, processing and quality control techniques. The students had the opportunity to interact with industry experts about nutritional labeling, preservatives, technologies used in food manufacturing. It was indeed an enlightening experience for the students.

Like every year Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir observed “SWACHHATA PAKHWADA” from 1st September to 15th September 2024. SWACHHATA campaign is observed in a befitting manner with focused participation resulting in a cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene drive together with a series of related activities throughout the year in the school campus with active participation of students, teachers and staff members.

Swachhata Shapath was taken by school students. A cleanliness drive was undertaken in the school campus. Waste materials like sanitation waste, used and disposed masks, broken furniture, e-waste, and unusable equipment were removed from the school premises and disposed off as per given procedure.

  1. Regular Teacher’s inspection of water and sanitary facilities in the school.
  2. Organization of painting/ poster making competition for students on “Cleanliness and hygiene practices” in school.
  3. Daily disinfection, sanitization and cleaning of classrooms, laboratories, library, staff rooms, toilets, playground, rooftop area etc.
  4. Regular spraying of larvicides to arrest dengue, malaria, flu etc.

BGKV is proud to announce that it has received several awards and certificates from The Telegraph team in their award ceremony The Telegraph School Award for Excellence 2024 which was held on 10th August 2024. The school has received a total of 11 honor certificates, merit certificates, certificates of appreciation and courage certificates, in various categories.

On 25th July 2024, two students of BGKV participated in a quiz event called Mnemosyne, which was part of the annual fest ‘Shabd’ organized by Mahadevi Birla World Academy. The school team secured the 2nd position in the competition. One of the students was also awarded the prize for the Best Promising Quizzer.

On 2nd August 2024, students of BGKV participated in TFSA Quizzical, organized by The Future Scholar Academy School. BGKV team bagged the first prize with a whopping 185 points. The event was held at Sahid Sadan, Ashoknagar.

Students and teachers of BGKV participated in various events of exeBIT-a three-day AI fest organized by Lakshmipat Singhania Academy. On the third day (9th August 2024), the results were announced and team BGKV secured the first position in two of the events namely, ‘Excel-Pixel’ and ‘ScratchYourHead’.

On 9th August 2024, students of BGKV participated in two events namely Abhyuday (Product Marketing) and Alfaaz (English, Hindi and Bengali Creative Writing). These events were part of Svatantryam, a three-day fest organized by Birla Bharti. Our school secured the third position in the event Alfaaz under the category of English creative writing.

On 29th June 2024, Adamas University (Department of Geography) and Adamas World School Barasat organized an International Quiz Competition On Sustainable Future. A few senior students of BGKV participated in the quiz; out of them, three were among the top ten performers.

The tournament was held over a span of nine days from 24th June to the 2nd of July in the school’s field. Since the start of the tournament, it was extremely difficult to distinguish a clear winner of the tournament, as the teams of all 15 of the participant schools were almost equally able. The grand finale was held on 2nd July 2024. The host team, BGKV, was the runners up of the event whereas the team of St Xavier’s became the winner of GOALZZ 2024.

On 4th July 2024, some students of BGKV participated in Eklakshya, a fest organized by Lakshimat Singhania Academy. There were two parts of the fest, one based on Psychology and was called Iris and the other was based on Commerce, which was called Bullionaire. The students participated in various events: Perception Paradox, Cataclysm Conundrum, and Marketing Mania. The BGKV team secured the 2nd runners-up position in Bullionaire 2024.

Time Edu shine 2024 was organized by The Times of India on 5th July 2024 at Dhono Dhanno Auditorium. The Class X and XII board exam toppers of BGKV were awarded medals and certificates for their excellent achievement in AISSE and AISSCE exams. The school has also received a framed certificate from the Time Edu shine group

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2024, the honorable Prime Minister has recently launched a tree plantation campaign called ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’. The students of BGKV enthusiastically took part in the campaign and planted saplings in their mother’s name in their neighborhood. On 10th July 2024, the students were shown a video based on this tree plantation campaign, to make them aware of the importance of planting trees. They also took a pledge to save and protect their mother earth.

The students of the Foundational Stage of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir celebrated ‘A Healthy Food Day’, in collaboration with ‘Exo Healthy Tiffin Talks’, through different activities on 12th July 2024. The tiny tots enjoyed the Bagless Day by efficiently sorting out food items as ‘good’ and ‘bad’ for their health, preparing different nutritious as well as delicious dishes through ‘non-fire cooking ‘and enacting a short skit on ‘Healthy Food Vs. Unhealthy Food’, through which they conveyed that healthy food is the key to good health. Students of Class I solved a worksheet where they identified and distinguished between healthy and unhealthy food items. Children of Class II pasted food pictures and categorized them under the three basic food groups. All the children brought nutritious and healthy tiffin. Two children per section were given prizes and certificates for bringing the ‘Healthiest Tiffin’.

Delhi Public School Ruby Park, Kolkata organized Striker 24, an inter-school football tournament, from 5th July to 16th July 2024. Sixteen boys’ teams and eight girls’ teams from different schools in West Bengal participated in this tournament. The girls’ football team of BGKV was one of the participating teams. On 13th July, they won the match against Aditya Academy, Barasat and qualified for the final. Our school team played well and became the first runner-up of the tournament.

On 22nd June 2024, CBSE Sahodaya School Complex- Kolkata organized the prestigious Sahodaya Principals’ Meet 2024. This time, the host school was Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir. This meet was an amalgamation of ideas, exchange of thoughts, and enlightenment towards the holistic development and monitoring of the future citizens of this country. The esteemed guests, Dr. Biswajit Saha, Director, Training and Skill Education, CBSE New Delhi and Swami Dr. Kamalasthanda Ji, Maharaj, Principal, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Rahara, Kolkata graced the event with their presence. The primary aim of this meet was to discuss on NCRF- National Credit Framework with Dr. Saha.

On 24th June 2024, students of BGKV participated in the final round of Cerebrate- an inter school debate competition, which is part of Kalakosh- a fest organized by South Point High School. The event took place at G D Birla Sabhaghar. BGKV team played very well and secured the position of 2nd runners-up.

BGKV congratulates Ishaan Dasgupta, Class 12 (Session 2023 -24) for securing IISER Rank – 51.

Medha Samman 2024’ is an annual event, organized by Taaza TV, to honor the students who have done exemplarily well in their academic results of the class 12 board examinations. This year many students of BGKV were honored with this award. The event was held on 23rd June 2024 at The Dhono Dhanyo Main Auditorium, Alipore, Kolkata. It was an endeavor to encourage the bright students for a successful future.

From 18th to 24th June 2024, the second phase of the Awareness Campaign ‘Say yes to Life, No to Drugs’ was conducted at BGKV. The students decorated the soft board with posters and charts spreading awareness against drug abuse. This is an initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs

Sanaya Som and Anjali Rathore of Class 10 E had participated in Vivo Ignite 2023 Technology and Innovation Awards. They were not only selected in the top 200 but have also secured 36th position in the competition. On 28th June 2024, they received some goodies sent by team Vivo as a token of appreciation. The school too received a memento from Vivo team

On 9th June 2024, BGKV toppers of AISSE exam were felicitated by Swami Ekachit Ananda, Principal, Ramkrishna Mission, Narendrapur.

On 9th June 2024, BGKV toppers who have achieved high scores in AISSCE exam, were felicitated at JIS Education EXPO by Simarpreet Singh, Director JIS Group, in presence of Dr. Ramanuj Ganguly, President, WB Board of Secondary Education, Dr. Malayendu Saha, Chairman WBJEE Board and renowned silver screen personnel, Abir Chatterjee.

From 5th to 11th May 2024, few students of class X and XI of BGKV represented their school at the National Integration Camp 2024, organised by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan-Kochi Kendra. There, they took part in different workshops and activities. The students also participated in the exhibition where they highlighted the culture and tradition of Bengal’s Durga Puja. They enjoyed the city tour and have also participated in the cultural programme, representing their state. Despite several challenges the students came back with an enriching experience.

On 14th May 2024, the current batch of class XII of BGKV organised a farewell for the outgoing class XII students. With the AISSCE results out, their happiness knew no bound, as they assemble in their school hall for one last time. The regular school auditorium was completely transformed as the outgoing students started pouring in, in their vibrant and colourful dresses. The students staged various performances from skit, recitation to dance and songs.

On 14th May 2024 the three high scorers of AISSE exam- Abhinav Acharya (99.4%), Anish Bhaumik (99.2%) and Arkodeb Datta (99%) were felicitated by Anindita Basu and Emily Das from Education Department of Government of West Bengal.

On 3rd and 4th May 2024, the students of BGKV participated in various events of Jubilare 2024, an inter-school fest organised by Shri Shikshayatan School. The painting event, Color Splash, was held on 3rd May and BGKV secured the second position. The table tennis event, Serve IT Right, was on 4th May and BGKV won the first prize.

On 3rd May, 2024 the students of BGKV participated in SCI-FUN-DAMENTAL’24, an inter school science quiz and exhibition competition, organised by The Heritage College. A total of 10 teams participated in the competition, out of which BGKV secured the 1st and 2nd positions in the science quiz competition. The students of BGKV were also adjudged first in the science exhibition.

On 26th April 2024, the students of BGKV participated in an interschool team championship, ‘Chessmate 2024’, an event of Kalakosh, organised by South Point High School. The boy’s team of BGKV won the final round and became the champion for the second time in a row and the girl’s team secured the 2nd position.

On 22nd April 2024, the students of BGKV participated in a Quiz Competition in Bengali, organised by Vinisha, on the occasion of Earth Day. This was held at Uttam Mancha. Our students performed very well and were the second runners-up.

On 8th April 2024, Narula Institute of Technology invited the principal of BGKV, Mr. Arun Kumar Dasgupta to be a part of the Panel Discussion on “Adopting the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) in Classroom Practices: Prospects and Obstacles for Educators” held during the occasion of Evolution 2024, The School Teachers’ Conclave.

On 29th March 2024 Rabindra Bharati Society organised Basanta Utsav at Rathindra Mancha in Jorasako Thakurbari. The students of BGKV wholeheartedly participated in this celebration of spring. The chorus group presented a melodious performance on Tagore’s songs. The students also staged solo and group dance performances. The touch of vibrant and colourful gulal powder added a different charm to the programme.

From 27th March to 29th March 2024 BGKV organised a unique Mural workshop on Bengal Patachitra. The workshop was conducted by eminent patachitra artists and National award winners Noordin Chitrakar and Kalpana Chitrakar. Under their professional guidance the students of BGKV, along with the teachers of art department made different kinds of murals on the outer walls of the school premise. This not only helped in the beautification of the city, but also enriched the students on the cultural and artistic heritage of Bengal.

On 15th March 2024 students of class V from the primary wing of BGKV got a golden opportunity to experience the electrifying performance of Don Gnu in G.D Birla Sabhaghar, Kolkata. The programme was organised by Sanskriti Sagar and Pickle Factory Dance Foundation. Don Gnu is an international physical theatre and comedy company from Denmark. For the first time in India, Don Gnu digs into the tediousness of everyday routine in search of poetry and humour in a performance with muscular physicality and edgy stunt tricks.

On 27th February 2024, Sandipta Patra, a class VIII student of BGKV became Man of the Match in Inter District Women’s Under- 14 Zonal Tournament 2023-2024, organized by Manbhumi Sports Association Purulia under The Cricket association of Bengal. The final match was between south Zone and West Zone, where South Zone became the champion.

s(COP)e [Students Climate Conference on Protecting Environment] 2024 was organized by Vinisha and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on 27th January 2024 where 19 schools participated with the agenda of raising awareness of protecting the Environment in various ways. The students participated in exhibition, open air art contest, environment skit and open forum discussions with the purpose of having a less polluted world and leaving a breathable planet for the future generation.

On 12th February 2024, BGKV organised a Science Activity Session in the school auditorium with all the students of class VI. The teachers presented various scientific experiments about which they have been learning in their classes. It was an extremely interesting and interactive session. The young minds were truly motivated.

The secondary wing of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised the Annual Sports Meet 2023 on the 22nd of December 2023, Friday, from 10:30 a.m. onwards in the school ground. Justice Ashim Kumar Banerjee, Honourable Justice (retd.), Calcutta High Court and Smt. Ruma Roy, Ex International Player, Coach, and Chief Archery Coach-SAI and Shri Pranab Nandy, Ex – Bengal Cricketer, graced the event with their presence, along with other dignitaries of the institution. The enthusiasm and excitement of students and parents made the sunny day even more bright and cheerful. The day they started with felicitating the chief guests. The march past of the four houses along with the school NCC group soon started. This was led by the White House members of the school and accompanied by the school band. Then the ceremonial torch was lit by the passing out batch of the school. A wonderful and jaw-dropping show of gymnastics was presented by one of the students, followed by a colourful and musical drill presentation by the students of classes VI and VII. Several field and track events took place after this. In the end, Rajaji House (Green) was declared the champion house.

Saanskritik Punarnirman Mission had organised the 29th Hindi Mela from 26th December to 1st January in Federation Hall, located opposite the Rajabazar Science College. It was a 7-day cultural programme where students of BGKV had participated. Several students have bagged awards and prizes in various different categories.

On 11th January 2024, the students of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir participated in ConnecTech, a national technical bonanza event organised by the University of Engineering and  Management (UEM). Forty schools participated in various events such as Curiosity, Pythagoras star, Biobrilliance, Nirmana etc. Our students secured first, second and third positions in various events and team BGKV bagged the Champion School prize

On 25th January 2024, the students of Class 11 Commerce visited The State Bank of India Museum and Archives. Chief Archivist of SBI, Dr. Ramakant Hoom, took over the session and explained the history of banking and also discussed various aspects of Banking transactions and instruments associated with the Banking Industry. Later on the students got the opportunity to glance through all the items kept at the museum.

On 25th January 2024, Venkatesh Das, a student of class VII participated in the Inter School Chess Tournament of the state, organized by Techno India Group. He became champion with 5 points. There were 5 rounds in total.

Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised its annual exhibition on the 7th and 8th of December 2023. The chief guest, Professor Basab Chaudhuri, Senior Director (Education) inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Professor Chaudhuri’s encouraging words highly motivated the students. The active participation of a large number of students across all classes and the uncountable visitors made this two-day exhibition a grand success. Not only the parents and ex-students but also students and teachers of various neighbouring schools thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition. All the departments put up their exhibits in different rooms. Along with the mainstream academic subjects like science, social science, mathematics, and language, co-curricular subjects like sports, arts, etc. also took part in the exhibition.

After a gap of three years BGKV’s Primary Section organised their Annual Prize Distribution and Cultural Programme. on 9th December 2023. In the gracious presence of the Chairman, Dr. Bikram Sarkar (IAS retd), Vice Chairman, Shri Raj Kumar Chhajer, Director, Dr. G.V. Subramanian, Deputy Director, Smt. Sujata Ghosh, Principal, Shri Arun Kumar Dasgupta, Vice Principal, Smt. Monami Chattopadhyay, the Headmistress, Smt. Suparna Chatterjee and the Assistant Head Mistress, Smt. Chaitali Bhowmik, the programme started with a powerful rendition of the Saraswati Stotram and the Deepa Mantra. This was followed by the Prize distribution ceremony and cultural programme.

On 10th December 2023, the secondary wing of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised their annual prize distribution and cultural programme- ‘Sampriti’. The event was graced by the presence of Honourable Justice (retd.) Subrata Talukdar, Calcutta High Court, and Professor Amlan J. Pal, Director of UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research and J. C. Bose National Fellow. The programme started with an invocation by chanting a Bhrama Stotra, followed by a Ganesh Vandana. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp by the chief guests and other dignitaries. Prizes were awarded in diverse categories and did not only focus on academics. Next, a few alumni of the school who are now renowned in their respective fields were felicitated. Some also joined the event online. The prize distribution and Alumni felicitation ceremony were followed by a brief cultural programme.

The Annual Sports Meet 2023 for the Foundational stage (Pre-primary I, II and Classes I & 2) of Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir was held on 19th December 2023. The occasion was graced by the Director, Dr. G V Subramanian, Principal Bhavan’s Institute of Management Sciences, Shri Shibo Prosad Mohapatro, Principal BGKV, Shri Arun Kumar Dasgupta, Vice Principal, Smt. Monami Chattopadhyay, Headmistress, Smt. Suparna Chatterjee and Assistant Headmistress, Smt. Chaitali Bhowmik. Right at the beginning the tiny tots welcomed the guests with their welcome song and dance that carried a vital message about the conservation of Mother Earth. A short but meaningful welcome address was given by the Headmistress, Smt. Suparna Chatterjee after which the Director, declared the Sports Meet open. Drill displays and athletic events followed. It was a delight to watch these little munchkins run earnestly and participate enthusiastically in the flat races as well as the novelty races

Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir, Primary Section, organised their Annual Sports Meet 2023 for classes III, IV and V on 20th December, 2023 in the gracious presence of the Chairman, Dr. Bikram Sarkar (IAS retd), Director, Dr. G.V. Subramanian, Shri Ramesh Chandran, Founder and Secretary of Vinisha, Principal, Shri Arun Kumar Dasgupta, Vice Principal, Smt. Monami Chattopadhyay, the Headmistress, Smt. Suparna Chatterjee and the Assistant Head Mistress, Smt. Chaitali Bhowmik. The programme started with the Welcome Dance dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Students performed Bharatnatyam standing on colourful earthen pots. This was followed by a Rally by the participants and prize winners. This was followed by colourful drills, and interesting races like the flat races, relay races, and novelty races. Finally, the prize distribution ceremony was held which was followed by the National Anthem. It was indeed a memorable day for all.

BGKV Annual Sports Heats was held on 1st and 2nd December 2023. Students of different houses participated with utmost enthusiasm.

Our school students participated in the CBSE Regional Science Exhibition held on 1st and 2nd December 2023 at GD Goenka Public School, Dakshineswar. In the event 45 schools participated and 73 exhibits were put on display. BGKV participated in Category I- Class VI to VIII (Theme: Computational Thinking) and Category II- Class IX to XI (Theme: Lifestyle). Both the teams got selected for the National Level CBSE Science Exhibition.

Neelabhro Bandyopadhyay of CLASS VII B, ROLL NO. 18, secured certificate and trophy for ranking 6 th in under 14 category in CHESS FOR YOUTH TOURNAMENT.   

Anandi Garg of 7E has secured Gold medal in All India Subjunior karate championship’23.

Rajorprit Sarbajna of class 10 B participated in SGFI State School Shooting Championship 2023 which was held at Medinipur Rifle Club. He won the Bronze medal at under 17 boys peep sight category.
